Basic Welding Course

Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to teach the welding techniques and manipulative skills required for each major welding process. This course is aimed at training ship board engineers and officers on all aspects of joining process. The course will cover the following topics:

• Basic welding techniques
• Basic metallurgy
• Welding defects

Practice sessions will be held on all topics. At the end of this course students will have gained competence in joining processes available on board and will thereby be in a position to reduce downtime.

Programme Fees:

• Course Fees - Rs. 5,000 per participant
• Lodging and Boarding - Rs 300 per participant per day on twin sharing basis.
• Participants are welcome to bring along spouses in which case an additional Rs.300/- per day will be charged towards spouse’s lodging & boarding. Sports, swimming and other facilities available.

• Demo & Practice: Arc striking / Formation of weld bead / FBA Demo / Fillet welding in down hand position
• Equipment required for SMAW
• Fundamentals in arc welding
• Selection of electrodes
• Brazing and soldering techniques
• Demo & Practice : Flame & Application / Gas welding of MS Brass Brazing / Ag. Brazing / Soldering
• Welding techniques of steel & alloys
• Welding techniques of cast iron & precautions
• Welding techniques of aluminium
• Demo & Practice : Welding of stainless steel to steel, mild steel to cast iron, aluminium
• Weld defects (cause & elimination)
• Practice : SMAW / Gas Welding
• Summing up
