Overview - B. S. Nautical Sciences (via the TMI Distance Learning Programme)
The TMI-BITS Distance Learning Centre presently offers a Bachelor's Degree programme
in Nautical Sciences. The degree certificate is awarded by Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences,
Pilani, one of the leading engineering institutes in India and a deemed university.
Main Objectives
The main objectives of the Distance Learnig Programme are to provide an opportunity for nautical officers to:
- obtain recognised educational qualifications while in service at sea
- develop skills and competence in accordance with the STCW 95 Convention at the managerial level
- acquire management and commercial techniques that are not otherwise covered in the competency examinations.
Certificates of Competency
Mariners have been studying for their Certificates
of Competency for years but a COC is not recognised as being equivalent
to a Degree. TMI-BITS Distance Learning now offers a process that
enables you to earn a degree while completing the studies for your competency certificates.
Structured Shipboard Training
As the Programme is specially designed to incorporate
the Structured Shipboard Training Programme (SSTP) and has D G Shipping's approval,
Phase I (Semesters A, B & C)
of the programme allows you to appear for your Second Mates COC after sea service
of 24 months.
