Performance Evaluation - B. S. Nautical Sciences (via the TMI Distance Learning Programme)
The students performance is assessed through:
- Assignments
- "Work this out for yourself" type questions
- Comprehensive tests on each course
Technical Journal
Technical Journals are reviewed for a student's performance in assignments and self-test questions.
This is done in the fourth month of a semester. In case of unsatisfactory performance,
the faculty intimates students about the areas of improvement and suggests remedial actions
/ tasks. In case of poor performance, a student may be asked to resubmit the assignments
or take up new assignments.
Comprehensive Tests
The comprehensive tests on all courses are to be taken in the sixth month of any semester.
Tests are "open book" and a student may use his notes and study material to answer
the questions. If the student is onboard a ship, the test is conducted under guidance of
the ship's master whereas if the student is ashore, the test will be held under the supervision
of TMI faculty.
After assessment, the journals and answer books are returned to students to help them
identify areas of improvement.
