"Hectic and jampacked" sum up the schedule of cadets
here at TMI. As time goes by, the courses here become more and more demanding,
but the cadets are taking things in their stride as they go full steam ahead.
The institute itself is going through a series of upgradations
in terms of infrastructure as well as knowledge base.
The world is up for grabs, and TMI is preparing its cadets to
be major contenders in every field. |

The TMI Governing Council
The Governing Council of TMI met on the 25 March 2005 with all the members of the council beingpresent. The Governing Council discussed matters pertaining to the future endeavours of the institute for its continuous growth.
Acknowledging the leadership and vision of Dr. C. P. Srivastava and to continue the benefit of his guidance, Dr. C. P. Srivastava was unanimously elected as the 'Chairman Emeritus' of the Governing Council. As a gesture of passing the baton to the younger generation, Mr. Rohet Tolani was elected as the Chairman of the Governing Council.
'Maritimes' wishes them best in their future endeavours.

INDIAN OCEAN MoU ON PORT STATE CONTROL SEMINAR OF PSCOs

Tolani Maritime Institute was honoured to be the chosen venue for the
Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on Port State Control
held from 9th to 11th February 2005, on behalf of the Directorate General of
Shipping. Under the Indian Ocean MoU, the conference was attended byrepresentatives of 19
countries including those from India, South Africa, Australia, Iran, Tanzania, Kenya, SriLanka, Bangladesh, Yemen, Korea and Indonesia. Representatives from companies such as SCI and IRS were also present.
 The Conference Underway
This was the third such meeting of it's kind and matters pertaining
to the function of the ercantile Marine Department(M.M.D) were
discussed. The M.M.D acts as an extension for the International
Maritime Organization(IMO) in India and lays down stringent
rules and safety norms for the ships plying in Indian waters.
APOGEE 2K5
 Four Of The Eight Team Members
A hastily put together team of eight cadets participated in "APOGEE
2K5"- the annual BITS-Pilani academic festival held from the 14th to
18th March. The team performed well in events related to fields as varied as Physics,
Mathematics, Thermal Engineering and Architecture. The cadets won laurels in various
events, namely:
Does It Work ?
In this event the cadets had to assemble
the mechanical components of a disassembled bicycle into full functionality. Cadets Ankur
Bahal, Chaitanya Shah, Gautam Kumar, Mohit Khanna, Mudit Goyal and
Prateek Jain stood 3rd overall in the event.
Fly Your Rocket
The event required that the cadets
fabricated a full working model of a
bottle rocket using common day
materials like pet bottles, bicycle
valves etc. The team comprising of
cadets Ankur Bahal, Asheesh
Malara and Chaitanya Shah
2nd bagged the position.
Insulation Design
The Thermal Engineering event
required the cadets to design their
insulation vessels of given volume
using materials such as thermocol,
aluminum foils, sawdust etc. Cdt. Ankur Bahal did extremely well tying at 1st position with
a team from BITS. Eventually he was placed 2nd after a question answer tie-breaker.
The cadets also participated and performed well in technical paper presentations in addition
to doing well in informal events.
