PRE-SEA COURSE GRADUATION CEREMONY
The
passing out ceremony of the 4th pre sea batch was held on 1st January 2005. Mr. Naresh
Salecha, Sr. Dy. Director General of Shipping in India, and his wife were the guests
of honor on the occasion, along with the presence of eminent personalities which further
glorified the euphoric ceremony.
Mr. Salecha who is head of the Department of Training of
Sea-Men in India eloquently appreciated the quality of training that was given to cadets at TMI. Addressing the Pre-Sea batch he said, "The new year marks the beginning
of a new phase of your training." He reminded the cadets of their responsibilities of
being good seafarers as well as representatives of their country. He said the kind
of disciplinary training given at TMI made him confident that the cadets would do the
country proud.

The presence of a sizeable number of girls enrolled under various courses at TMI was highly appreciated by the chief guest.
Mr. Salecha presented the passing certificates to 39 cadets and wished them all the best. The meritorious cadets were:
Best All Round Performance: Cdt. Harkeerat Singh Gill
Best Academic Performance: Cdt. Khot Nabil Hamid
The cadets, full of determination and zeal, thanked the faculty at TMI, who in a brief period of five months had polished their personalities. They said, “When we came here we were just Higher Secondary students with no knowledge of life ahead. Now your training has turned us into skillful cadets. We promise to do you proud. Thank you.”
INDIGENOUS MOBILE REFRIGERATION TRAINER
 As
a part of the curriculum, 2nd and 3rd year students, under the able guidance of the faculty
of the Department of Thermal Engineering, have successfully designed
and constructed a mobile refrigeration system of 1TR
capacity. The system was designed keeping in mind
shipboard systems and will be used as a trainer for
further practicals. The system uses F-22 gas and has
two refrigeration chambers operated at shipboard
vegetable and meat room temperatures, and it can
attain requisite temperatures within 25 minutes of
operation. The total cost of design and construction
was about Rs. 1.43 lakhs, which is much lower than
similar cooling systems available in the market.

REPUBLIC DAY/INVESTITURE
Keeping with its annual tradition, TMI celebrated Republic Day on campus on the
26th of January. Dr. S. G. Dixit, Chairperson, Academic Affairs, hoisted the flag on
the occasion.
The celebration was followed by the investiture ceremony for the fifth batch of the pre-sea deck cadets.
This batch of cadets has been sponsored by such reputed companies as Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Selandia Marine Services Pvt. Ltd. and V- Ships.

INTER-HOUSE CROSS-COUNTRY
The
end of 2004 witnessed a high level of enthusiasm and determination during the inter-house
cross-country race in which well over 600 students took part. The day of the cross-country race also
coincided with the Pune International Marathon "A Run Against AIDS". The cross country race was a run of
nearly 6 km that required a high level of physical stamina. The students showed great spirit and finished the race in record time. The race winners were awarded prizes by Mr. B. K. Saxena and Capt. Razdan.

The prize winners were:
1st position : Kiran Pothugunta (2nd Yr. M.E.)
2nd position : Blain D'Lyma (3rd Yr. M.E.)
3rd position : Rajesh K (2nd Yr. N.T.)
1st position (girls) : Prana Verma (2nd Yr. M.E.)
TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND
Students and faculty of TMI took the initiative and set up a Relief Fund in order to contribute towards the rescue and relief operations underway along the eastern coast of India, following the widely publicised Tsunami tragedy. Students came forward with monetary contributions as well as clothing and medicine for those who were affected by the disaster. The contributions were forwarded via various government and non-government channels to the affected areas.

SLICE '04
TMI played host to several marine engineering colleges from all over India, for a paper presentation on "Modern Trends in Large IC Engines", in association with the Institute of Marine Engineers, Pune. Mr. Peter Griffin, V.P., Research & Development, Cummins, was the chief
guest. A panel of three judges included Mr. Datar, a senior member of IME(I).
A total of seventeen teams participated. The amount of hard work put in by the participants was evident from the quality of their presentations.
The team from TMI comprising of Vishit Arora and Chirayu Joshi stood first, while Varunendra Pratap Singh and Zaheer Papar stood third. Second spot was taken up by the team from R. L. Institute, Madurai.
TMI at MOOD INDIGO
The turn of December brought with it the colourful mega-festival "MOOD INDIGO" hosted by IIT-Powai. The event saw colleges from all over India locking horns in events as varied as castle making, t-shirt designing, western and Indian solo and group performances, English and Hindi drama, debates and street plays just to name a few. The heart and soul efforts of TMI students saw the Institute through to the finals of each event and while the victory palm proved to be elusive, the students won many a heart with their sterling performances.
CONFLUENCE'04
The cheering sounds never seemed to end when the first year students took stage and unleashed their creative side in CONFLUENCE '04. The songs, dances and plays presented by them were a gesture of thanking the seniors for the warm welcome given by them.
CRICKET TOURNAMENT
The month of December witnessed this seasons cricket tournament. The much celebrated and highly popular game, like usual, was received with great enthusiasm on the part of all students. This year's championship saw Cassim house fielding one of their strongest line-ups ever, as was evident from their winning streak. The Cassim house juggernaut was only brought to a halt in the final match where Morarjee house got the better of them.
The final standing of houses was as follows :
