Eligibility Criteria for the TMI-BITS Distance Learning Programme

1 Can I join the Programme at any time of the year?

The candidates, who have passed Pre-sea Training Course from DG recognised institutions, are eligible to enroll for Phase 1 (Semester A to C) of the programme. This phase of the programme is completed only while serving at sea as a cadet. This implies that this phase of the programme can be completed in eighteen months sea service. However, the Indian administration requires twenty four months of sea service as a cadet. Therefore, on successful completion of semester C, candidates can enroll for Phase 2 (Semester D to F) and subsequently for Phase 3 (Semester G & H) of the programme.

You can, therefore, join the Programme at anytime. Your semester shall commence from the day you enroll. Your semester shall be successfully completed when you present the assignments identified and take the comprehensive examination. The programme allows six calendar months for the same but you may be allowed an extra two months with the consent of the Institute

2 I have already completed some sea service after my second mates and shall be joining the college for the Phase I and II courses for the Master's and Master's examination. Would I be able to join and complete the Programme?

Yes. You can join the programme if you meet the eligibility conditions. The studies for the programme and those for the PHASE I and II courses for the Mate’s and Master’s Examination are similar and do not clash. Under the present rules you only require a total of 12 months sea service during your Semesters D to H. Remember the Degree is not connected with the COC but prepares you for it in all aspects.
