Associations
Commerce Association (Jr. College)
The association conducts seminars and workshops on current topics and events where professionals from NGOs and other organisations participate. These programmes are interactive with students taking keen interest. It enables the students to improve their presentation, paper reading and debating skills besides their public speaking ability.
The Toppers' talk show and the Budding Teachers competition are the highlights of this association.
Cultural Association
The association provides a platform to showcase the talent of students in the performing arts. A variety of activities like dance and singing competitions etc. are organised.
English Literary Association
The ELA encourages the literary talents of the students and enhances their communication skills. It organises various activities like elocution, debates, group discussions and essay and short story writing competitions.
Gujarati Sahitya Mandal (GSM) (Jr. College)
GSM promotes Gujarati language, culture and tradition. The Mandal organises essay writing competitions and debates. The annual Garba Raas is the highlight of the GSM.
Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM)
The Hindi Sahitya Mandal aims to create an interest in Hindi language and literature among the students. The Mandal organises a "Hindi Sahitya Week" every year in which activities like essay writing, debate, Quiz Competition, elocution poetry recitation etc. are held.
The highlights of the H.S.M are the Intercollegiate Solo Singing Competition, Duet Singing Competition and Intercollegiate Dance Competition, which are sponsored by Mr. Anil Murarka, an industrialist.
Hobby Centre
The Centre promotes the artistic talents of the students and helps them to hone their creative skills. It organises various competitions like sketching, painting, mehendi, rakhi making, candle making, greeting card making etc. It also organises "DAWAT" the annual food festival to promote entrepreneurial talent among students.
Marathi Vangmaya Mandal (MVM)
It provides a platform to Marathi speaking students to showcase Maharashtrian culture and literature. MVM organises a grand Marathi cultural event called "Sanskruti" which is held every year in which students perform traditional dances such as "Lezim", "Gondhal" and "Lavanis", skits, one-act plays and traditional Marathi songs. The MVM also organises activities like essay writing, debates, quiz, poetry writing, etc.
Mathematics & Computer Association
The objective of the Association is to develop and create interest among the students for mathematics and computer. It organises a variety of activities like maths and computer quizzes apart from conducting workshops related to information technology and animation.
Music Club
The Music Club has been formed to provide a platform to the students to showcase their talent in playing Indian and Western musical instruments. The Club boasts of its own College Band.
The Music Club organises various workshops, jammin sessions and ‘lecdems'. Its highlight is the Rock Concert which is very popular among the students.
Nature Club
The Club promotes environmental awareness among the students by conducting regular excursions and treks. It also organises lectures, audio-visual shows and poster making competitions to create and promote interest in various environmental issues.
The Nature Club has opened avenues for students to participate in adventure sports like river rafting, canoeing, parasailing and paragliding at places like Pokhara (Nepal), Goa, Shimla, Manali, Darjeeling, Kodaikanal, etc.
Planning and Economic Forum
The Forum provides opportunities to the students to enhance their academic skills and general knowledge. It regularly organises elocution and paper reading competitions, group discussions, debates and invites guest speakers from academia and industry. This helps the students to keep abreast with national and international issues of topical interest.
The annual A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition held in collaboration with the Forum of Free Enterprise is a major highlight.
Punjabi Association (Jr. College)
The Association organises traditional Punjabi dance performances like Bhangra and Giddha and also holds a Punjabi fair. The Punjabi culture and tradition are appreciated by students from other states. Literary events like debates, elocution and essay writing are held to promote the language.
Sindhi Circle
The objectives of the Sindhi circle are to highlight and popularise the Sindhi language, culture and tradition by way of slide show presentations, poetry recitation and essay writing. In addition, the Circle conducts elocution competitions, debates and literary quiz contests.
Talent Pool
This Association aims to promote the talents of the students in literary and performing arts. A "talent hunt" is conducted in the beginning of the year to identify the students' hidden talents. The students are then groomed for various inter-collegiate festivals.
In the very first year of its inception (2007-2008), the College won 55 prizes in various inter-collegiate events including the prestigious ones like I.I.T.'s Mood-Indigo, T.I.S.S.'s Manthan, etc. In the academic year 2008-2009, the College won 81 inter-collegiate prizes.
TALENZZIA, an inter-collegiate festival wherein about twenty different colleges participate, is planned and organised by the Talent Pool annually at the College.
Audit of Association Accounts
While all associations function autonomously, the financial transparency is ensured by an annual audit conducted by the Department of Accountancy of their financial affairs and statements.
Annual Magazine
The production of the Annual Magazine is a team effort of the faculty and the students. It includes articles and poems in different languages and also covers the major events and achievements of the faculty and the students. The production of this magazine provides a platform for the students to showcase their creativity and for the team to develop and enhance their skills in sourcing information, editing and designing. |
